Warehousing & Fulfilment

What a Grade A warehouse should include: a checklist for brands

The structure, safety, stock-control and security checks that separate a Grade A warehouse from a label.

The short answer

A Grade A warehouse is defined by what you can measure on a site visit, not by a label. Check the structure (clear height, racking, floor load), fire safety and clearances, light and connectivity, and then the controls that protect your stock: scan-verified handling, daily cycle counts and camera coverage.

At a glance

  • Measure structure: clear height, racking levels and floor load.
  • Ask for the fire clearance and see the sprinklers and hydrants.
  • Check the stock controls and camera coverage, not just the building.

Structure

Prozo builds every warehouse, its own or a partner’s, to one standard:

  • 11 metre clear height
  • 6 levels of certified Grade A racking
  • 5 tonne point load on the floor

Height and racking decide how much stock fits per square foot; floor load decides what you can store safely.

Fire and safety

Look for sprinklers and hydrants backed by a valid fire clearance, trained first aiders and clearly marked exits. Ask to see the clearance certificate, not just the equipment. Prozo keeps a safety committee and near-miss reporting at every site.

Light, air and connectivity

Pick and pack accuracy depends on working conditions. A Grade A site should have about 200 lux of lighting, full ventilation, wireless coverage throughout and a hand-held terminal at every station, so every step can be scanned.

Stock controls

The building matters less than how stock moves through it. Prozo runs every warehouse in 6 controlled steps, from gate entry to dispatch, with a scan at every step:

  • every pallet and carton carries a unique scannable ID from receipt to dispatch
  • a rotating daily cycle count covers every location
  • every variance is investigated and closed within 24 hours

That is how Prozo holds 99.5% inventory accuracy at SKU level.

Security

Prozo runs one safety, security and loss prevention protocol with 5 layers: gate and seal records, camera coverage, scan-verified handling with role-based access, fire safety, and insurance for fire, burglary, stock and transit. Its Command Centre reviews 5 named zones on live video at every warehouse every day: packing tables, manpower entry, staging, docks and the periphery.

Questions to ask on a site visit

  • What is the clear height, and how many racking levels are certified?
  • Can I see the current fire clearance?
  • How is a stock variance found, and how fast is it closed?
  • Which areas are on camera, and who reviews the footage?
  • What happens to my stock if this site becomes unusable?

At Prozo, the last answer is the cluster: stock moves to another live warehouse in the region, and a trained reserve comes from nearby sites.
